Our Presentation

Our session lasts about 90 minutes. We use a powerpoint presentation, but have several short films throughout the session. We make it as interactive as possible, inviting questions at several stages.
We will trim our presentation as per your requirements, but working with Sunderland College, we have arrived at a structure which is appropriate for most applications.

We introduce ourselves and briefly mention our backgrounds. We state some statistincs relating to blindness today and David Lucas gives a short talk about his experience of sight loss in the 1980s.
.
We show a short film describing common hazards for visually impaired people. We follow this with a discussion on the etiquette of assisting people who are blind and maintaining a favourable environment.
David then gives the second part of his story describing his decision to apply for a guide dog, the effect this had on his life. He also covers the impact of the Disability Discrimination Act and how this also has affected him.
We keep the last part of the session flexible so as to be able to fit the session, but we have a number of items we can cover. We have for instance, films of guide dogs being trained and information on the a number of campains we are involved with and guidelines from the RNIB regarding preserving your sight.
